Connect a source so your numbers stay true without you touching them.
A scene tied to a live source re-checks it rather than holding a number you typed once. That's what stops a deck going stale between the day you built it and the day you present it.
Connecting a source
Open Live data in the deck bar and choose Add a source. Pick what you want to draw on and follow the prompts — some sources open a page in your browser so you can approve access, then hand you back.
Once it's connected, ask for what you want in the chat the same way you'd ask for anything else, and the scene keeps itself current from then on.
Reading the panel
Each source shows where it stands:

That last one matters on stage: a source going quiet never blanks your scene or interrupts you. It shows what it last knew and says so in the panel, where only you are looking.
You can also set a source to Frozen, which holds its last value instead of updating — useful when you want a number to stay exactly as it was for a particular talk.
Seeing what's connected
Connections in the deck bar lists what in your deck depends on what — which scenes draw on which sources, and which parts respond to your audience. It's a way of checking your deck will behave the way you expect before you're in front of people, without opening every scene.
Opening a deck that came from someone else
If you're handed a deck that draws on live data you haven't set up, LivingScene says so and offers to set it up. Until you do, those scenes show the values that travelled with the file.
When you present
Live sources keep updating while you present. If you'd rather a number held still for the length of a talk, set that source to Frozen beforehand.
Exporting is different: an exported document is a still, so anything live in it is stamped with the date and time it was accurate. See Sharing scenes.
